Egils Milbergs is president and founder of the Center for Accelerating Innovation.  He is a noted thought leader and strategist in global innovation, advanced manufacturing, competitiveness and public-private partnerships.   The Centers primary mission is to assist business and governments commercialize emerging technologies and build innovation ecosystems that are globally competitive. Mr. Milbergs has been an active participant in the National Innovation Initiative (NII) co-chaired by Sam Palmisano, chairman, IBM and Wayne Clough, president, Georgia Tech University. His prior experience includes:
  • President of the National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM) and founding director of the Advanced Manufacturing Leadership Council.
  • Founder of Learning Access, a consultancy for advancing internet based solutions in the K-12 education environment.
  • President of the non-partisan Institute for Illinois, a partnership of the Illinois Congressional Delegation and business community which successfully promoted a $2 billion research investment program for the state technology infrastructure.
  • Strategic advisor to the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) and developer of the first comprehensive technology plan for the Commonwealth.  
  • Executive Director of the Presidents Commission on Industrial Competitiveness chaired by John Young, CEO of Hewlett-Packard, which produced the landmark report entitled Global Competition: The New Reality.
  • Deputy Assistant Secretary for Productivity, Technology and Innovation, U.S. Commerce Department, with policy responsibility for productivity initiatives, industry-university technology transfer, collaborative R&D, US metric system and the Federal Technology Transfer Act. He played a principal role in establishing the Baldrige National Quality Award.
  • Program Director, SRI International, leading research on federal R&D management practices and global business futures.
Mr. Milbergs began his career at the Office of Management and Budget. He is a graduate of Harvard College where he concentrated in public policy and economics.
